Overview
ClipRelay is a Chrome extension designed to help users save and organize selected text from web pages, especially from AI conversation platforms. Your privacy is fundamental to how this extension is designed. This extension follows a local-first architecture, meaning your data stays on your device.

Data Collection
ClipRelay does not collect, transmit, store, or sell any personal data. Specifically:

No personally identifiable information is collected.
No browsing history is tracked.
No analytics, cookies, or tracking technologies are used.
No data is transmitted to any external servers under any circumstances.

Local Data Storage
All content you save (such as text snippets, notes, and tags) is stored exclusively in your browser using the chrome.storage.local API. This data:

Remains entirely on your device.
Is not accessible to the developer, as all data is stored locally.
Can be viewed, exported, or deleted by you at any time through the extension’s dashboard.
Is typically removed when you uninstall the extension.

Chrome Sync
If you enable Chrome’s built-in sync feature, your data may be synchronized across your own devices through your Google account. This process is handled entirely by Google and is outside the control of the extension.

Permissions and Their Use

storage
Used to store your saved content and settings locally in Chrome.

activeTab
Used only when you manually activate the extension to read the text you explicitly select on the current page.

scripting
Used to inject a content script into the current page when you trigger the save action. This is necessary because AI platforms like ChatGPT and Claude are Single Page Applications (SPAs) that dynamically load content — the script must be injected on-demand when you press the keyboard shortcut.

Host Permissions
The extension requests access to specific AI platform domains (chatgpt.com, claude.ai, gemini.google.com, grok.com, x.com) to enable enhanced metadata extraction such as conversation titles. The extension:

Does not actively access these sites unless you trigger the extension.
Does not monitor your activity.
Only activates when you explicitly use the save function.

Third-Party Services
This extension does not use third-party APIs, remote code, analytics services, or external databases.

Data Sharing
We do not sell, transfer, or share any user data because we do not collect it.

Your Control Over Your Data
You have full control over your data:

You can delete individual items at any time.
You can clear all saved data from the dashboard.
You can export your data as CSV for backup or migration.
You can remove all data by uninstalling the extension.

Children’s Privacy
This extension does not knowingly collect any data from anyone, including children under the age of 13.
