Overview

ClipRelay is a Chrome extension that helps users save and organize text they explicitly select from web pages, including AI conversation platforms.

ClipRelay is built with a local-first architecture. The extension processes and stores saved content locally in the user’s browser and does not transmit that content to the developer or to external servers.

Data Processed by the Extension

ClipRelay may process and locally store the following information when you explicitly use its capture or organization features:

Text you select and save from a web page
The title and URL of the source page
Notes, tags, categories, and other organizational information you add
Dates and times associated with saved records
Search terms, saved prompts, and extension preferences
Locally generated identifiers and installation or migration state used to operate the extension
Local export and backup settings

The contents you choose to save may include personal or sensitive information. ClipRelay processes such content only at your direction and stores it locally in your browser.

No Developer Collection or External Transmission

ClipRelay does not collect user data on behalf of the developer and does not transmit saved content or extension data to external servers.

Specifically:

No personally identifiable information is requested from you.
No saved text, notes, tags, page titles, or source URLs are sent to the developer.
No analytics, advertising SDKs, cookies, or tracking technologies are used.
No data is sold, rented, shared, or used for advertising.
No data is stored in an external database.
No remote code or third-party API is used.

Browsing Activity

ClipRelay does not access or monitor your Chrome browsing history.

When you explicitly save selected text, the extension may store the title and URL of that specific page so that you can identify the source of the saved content. It does not continuously observe the websites you visit or create a general record of your browsing activity.

Local Data Storage

Saved content and extension settings are stored in your browser using the chrome.storage.local API.

Data stored through this API:

Remains in the local Chrome profile where the extension is installed
Is not transmitted to the developer or to external servers
Is not synchronized through your Google account
Cannot be remotely accessed by the extension developer
Can be viewed, edited, exported, or deleted through the extension interface

Uninstalling ClipRelay removes the extension’s browser-local data. Files that you previously exported or downloaded as backups remain on your device until you delete them manually.

Exports and Automatic Backups

ClipRelay allows you to export saved records in supported file formats.

Exported files and optional automatic backup files are saved only to your browser’s configured download location or another location you select.

Automatic backup:

Is disabled by default
Runs only after you explicitly enable it
Creates local downloadable backup files
Does not upload backup files to any cloud service or external server
Can be disabled at any time through the extension settings

You are responsible for protecting and deleting exported or downloaded files stored outside the extension.

Permissions and Their Use

storage

Used to store saved content, notes, tags, settings, prompts, and local application state in your Chrome profile.

activeTab

Used only after an explicit user action, such as using the extension’s keyboard shortcut or right-click menu.

It temporarily allows ClipRelay to access the active page so that it can read the text you have selected and obtain the source page title and URL. ClipRelay does not use this permission to monitor your browsing automatically.

scripting

Used to inject ClipRelay’s locally packaged content script into the active page after you trigger a capture action.

The script is injected on demand and is authorized through the temporary activeTab permission. ClipRelay does not request permanent access to any specific website.

contextMenus

Used to provide the right-click menu command for saving selected text.

downloads

Used only when you export saved records or enable local automatic backups.

ClipRelay does not use this permission to inspect, read, modify, or upload arbitrary files from your device.

Third-Party Services

ClipRelay does not use third-party analytics services, advertising services, remote databases, remote code, or external data-processing APIs.

The extension may provide links that open third-party websites at your request. Opening such a website is subject to that website’s own privacy policy. ClipRelay does not automatically send your saved local data to those websites.

ClipRelay does not sell, rent, transfer, or share user data with the developer, advertisers, data brokers, or other third parties.

Because the extension does not transmit locally stored data, the developer does not have access to the content you save.

Your Choices and Control

You control the information stored by ClipRelay.

You may:

Delete individual saved items
Edit saved content, notes, or tags
Clear locally stored records
Export your records for backup or migration
Disable automatic backups
Delete downloaded export or backup files manually
Remove the extension and its browser-local data by uninstalling it

Data Security

ClipRelay minimizes data exposure by keeping saved information within the user’s local Chrome profile and by not transmitting it to external servers.

You should protect access to your computer, Chrome profile, and downloaded backup files, particularly when the content you save contains confidential or sensitive information.

Children’s Privacy

ClipRelay is not designed to collect personal information from children.

The extension does not knowingly transmit or collect personal information from children under the age of 13 or from any other user.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy when ClipRelay’s features or data practices change.

Updates will be published on this page, and the “Last updated” date will be revised accordingly. If a future version introduces materially different data practices, those practices will be disclosed before or when the relevant feature is introduced.
